Bulldogs, Dolphins win 3B titles

DE SMET — The De Smet Bulldogs made the most of the home advantage Thursday, rolling up 126 points to edge James Valley Christian by eight points for the boys’ title at the Region 3B Track and Field Meet. Many Heartland area teams competed at the meet and results are on page 14. Hitchcock-Tulare finished fifth, Wolsey-Wessington was eighth, Wessington Springs finished 10th and Iroquois was 11th.
The Deubrook Area girls scored 174 points to dominate the girls’ race, outpacing Estelline-Hendricks’ 151 point effort. Wolsey-Wessington was third in the girls’ race with 92 points. JVC’s and De Smet’s girls tied for fifth, Wessington Springs finished ninth, Hitchcock-Tulare was 10th and Iroquois finished 11th.
Heartland athletes who earned regional titles for the boys included Karlus Waldner of JVC in the 110-meter hurdles; Hithcock-Tulare’s Ty Hofer in the 300-meter hurdles; Colton Schweigert of James Valley Chrsitian in the 800-meter run; Koby Spader of De Smet won the discus and the shot put for the Bulldogs, while Darrian Hood took both the long and triple jumps for James Valley Christian.
The 400-meter and Medley relays went to De Smet, while JVC took the 1600 and 3200-meter relay events.
In the girls’ division, individual titles went to Kailynn Dorris of Wolsey-Wessington in the 100-meter dash.
