HURON — Charles Russell Rowen, 68, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018, while on vacation in Rocky Pointe, Mexico.
He was born on November 10, 1949, in Huron to Beryle (Gohring) and Russell Rowen. Chuck grew up on a farm outside of Wessington. After graduating from Wessington High School in 1968, he joined the United States Armed Forces and served in Vietnam until 1971.
Chuck returned home and was united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church to Connie Sue Cook in August of 1973. They made their home in Huron and raised two children. Before retirement, Chuck worked for several different employers in and around Huron over the years, including Hiles Trucking, Cook Seed Company, Beadle County Highway Department, Scott Olson Implement, and Bowes Construction.
Chuck had a passion for horses, westerns, and rodeos. He was rarely seen without his trademark cowboy hat and boots. He was truly a cowboy at heart. He had a sarcastic wit and was never too shy to share his opinion. Unbeknownst to most, he also had a sensitive side that he reserved for those closest to him and was sentimental at heart.
In his free time Chuck enjoyed fishing, hunting, four wheeling, traveling, and gardening. But above all else he loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Connie; son, Chad Rowen of Prescott, Ariz.; daughter, Rebecca (Tyler) Trigg of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his beloved grandchildren, Hunter and Isabelle Trigg, and Braedon Dunn; sisters, Sandra (Gary) Bonebright of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kayla (Rick) Kleinschmidt of Chandler, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
Please join us in celebrating Chuck’s life. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m., Friday, March 23, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, followed by a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. The memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday March 24, at the First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Legion in Wessington for much needed building repairs or Charles Rowen Memorial Fund.
