HURON — Gary Mies, 61, of Huron, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at his home.
Interment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.
Gary Peter Mies was born November 8, 1957, to Peter “Pete” and Carol (Stetzig) Mies. He grew up in Huron and attended Huron High School.
From 1982 until 1985, he served in the United States Army. He earned the rank of sergeant and served a tour of duty in Germany. He had many jobs throughout the years. He was a salesman at a camper and RV dealership in Greensville, S.C., worked at a boat repair center as a supervisor for Yamaha motors, and had owned Gary’s Rental Supply in Charleston, S.C. In 2010, Gary returned to S.D.
He loved music and played the bass guitar. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing. He was a talented story teller and just a fun person to be around.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea Mies; three children, Grant (Gwen) Mies of S.C., Randy Mies, and Cynthia Mies, both of Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.
His arrangements have been entrusted with the Kuhler Funeral Home.
