Huron earns split at Aberdeen Invite

ABERDEEN — The Huron Tigers tennis team won one match and dropped two Saturday at the Aberdeen Invitational. Huron dropped matches to Milbank and “AA” power Rapid City Stevens, but pulled out a 5-4 win over Rapid City Central at the event.
Against Stevens, the Raiders showed why they are among the top teams in the state. RC Stevens shut out Huron 9-0. The Tigers claimed a pair of wins against Milbank, but dropped the match 7-2 to the Bulldogs. Winning games for Huron were Audrey Rubish, who posted a 10-0 win over Rhianna Cantine at the No. 2 singles slot, while Hte Say held on to defeat Alexis Ninneman 11-9 in extra time at the No. 6 singles spot.
“We got the win over Central,” said Tiger coach Rachel Kary. “We had some great play at both the singles and doubles levels in all our matches today.

Huron’s top singles players got the Tigers off to a flying start against RC Central. Kayla Harvey defeated McKenzy Crowley 10-5 at No. 1, while Rubish came out on top of Dayton Franke by a score of 10-8. Eh Ter Ler Hae and Beth Englehart fell in the No. 3 and 4 singles matches, respectively, as both players dropped tightly contested battles.
Madelynn Lord got Huron back on the winning track at No. 5 singles, as she dispatched Kianna Johnson 10-4, while Htee Say inked her second singles win of the day, taking a 9-7 win in a tie-breaker to defeat Aria Friederich at No. 6.
Needing one win in doubles to secure the victory, Huron got it as Htee Say and Bianca Medina  earned a 10-4 win at No. 3 singles to put the match in the win column.
Huron returns to Aberdeen today, to compete in the Aberdeen Roncalli Triangular.
