Huron gymnasts compete in Madison triangular

MADISON — Erica Zell tied for first place in vault with Madison’s Kylie Krusemark, at a 9.30 score for the Huron Tigers gymnastics team, while Sarah Christenson took third place for Huron in beam with 8.65 and tallied 32.50 to place as seventh all around gymnast at the triangular held on Thursday night in Madison.
“Very impressed with Sarah Christenson tonight. She is staying very consistent and her confidence is rising,” said Huron coach Julie King. “Erica Zell also had a great meet, setting a new school record in vault held by herand Hailey McCune.”
Huron placed third with 125.45 team points, Yankton took first with 135.80 points for the Gazelles, while the Madison Lady Bulldogs tallied 134.35 to come in second.
Huron all around finishers also include Jamee Kattner, who tallied 31.150 for a spot at ninth, Jacelyn Bankston took eleventh place, while Zell finished thirteenth. The Gazelle’s claimed the top three spots in the all around category, with Ava Koller in the number one spot at 34.150, Samantha Kortan followed at a score of 34.0, while Alison Johnson tallied 33.950 to take third place.
Kattner scored 8.70 to tie for fourth place in vault, while Christenson tied for thirteenth.

Koller tallied 9.250 in the floor exercises to land in first again for Yankton, while Zell took a respectable 9.0 in the event to finish fourth. Also in the event for Huron was Christenson at number 11.
In beam, Kortan came out on top for Yankton with a 9.0 score, Kattner totaled 7.750 to place ninth for Huron, while Leah Pyle was 11th in the event.
“Jamee Kattner also had a nice meet scoring a personal best on her handspring full,” King said.
Johnson took first with a score of 8.1 in bars, while Yankton maintained the lead throughout the night. Zell tied for fifth with Kortan as both competitors totaled 7.650.
“The tigers need to keep working hard and hitting skills,” explained King. “Our next meet will be Saturday in Watertown at their invite.”
In junior varsity action, Madison took first place as a team with a 121.35 score, in second was Yankton with 114.7, and Huron claimed a spot in third with a 100.65 team score.
Huron’s McKenzie Paulson finished as fourth all around gymnast in JV with a score of 24.65, while Madison held the first two spots with Lexi Hirsch in first at 31.35, and Julia Dossett tallied 29.4 to come in second.
Huron is scheduled to be back in action at noon on Saturday at Watertown High School.
