MADISON — Larry (Oscar) Dean Poppen, 68, of Madison, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018, at the Madison Care and Rehab in Madison.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Howard. Visitation with family present will be Wednesday at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard from 5 to 7 p.m.
Larry was born June 2, 1950, in Canova to Emil and Betty Poppen. He was united in marriage to Luella Corey April 25, 1981. They made their home and raised their family on a farm northeast of Howard.
He worked at Sherman’s Service in Howard as a tire salesman and muffler repair and pipe bender. In 1991, he went to work at Clarke and Son Implement. He will be remembered for cutting and bailing hay during the summer with his Allis Chalmers tractor and his good sense of humor. He was a member of the Belleview Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Luella; children, Corey (Sarah) of Madison, Colleen (Carlos) Grennell of Howard; five grandchildren; sisters, Charolette Weber of Madison, Connie (Dale) Peterson of Sioux Falls, Judy (Mark) Sustad of Denver, Colo., Linda Miller of Sioux Falls, and Nyla (Doug) Larsen of Howard; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward, niece, JoLynn Wolf; and nephew, Adam Corey.
