HURON — Laura M. Jones, 90, of Huron, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017, in Huron. 
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 18, at the Congregational United Church of Christ. Private burial will precede the funeral service. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 17, at the Kuhler Funeral Home with her family present from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kuhler Funeral Home.
Laura Marguerite Kludt Jones was born October 9, 1927, in rural Huron to Robert Kludt, Sr. and Elsie Zeeck Kludt. She grew up in rural Huron and attended country school.
Laura married the love of her life, Howard D. Jones June 15, 1946. They lived on a farm near Alpena where they raised their six children. They were avid supporters of the Alpena School where their children attended.
After Howard’s death in 1981, Laura moved to Huron where she became a “working woman” outside the home. Her first job was at Tot Town, followed by cooking positions at SunQuest Village and Huron College. After retiring, she began volunteering at James Valley Christian School where her granddaughters attended, her church, Huron Area Senior Center, and Huron Regional Medical Center Auxiliary as a Pink Lady. She logged over 5000 volunteer hours at the hospital in 17 years and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2010.
Laura was a member of the Huron Congregational United Church of Christ since 1983, and the Owen-Kunze Post 116 American Legion Auxiliary since 1963. She embroidered quilts and gifted each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a quilt.
Laura was devoted to her family and recently wrote:  “I love my God, my kids, my church and my country. I like to read, especially American history and biographies and true stories. I like new cars and desserts.”
Laura is survived by her children, Judy (Harvey) Preble of Eagan, Minn., Jeannie (Ordean) Heitmann of Aberdeen, Douglas (Carol) Jones of Alpena, Kathleen (Jon) Wibbels of Yankton, Robert (Christy) Jones of Fargo, N.D., and (Laura) Yvonne (Mike) Brosnan of Huron; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys (Siegfried) Noack of Mitchell; three sisters-in-law, Queenda (Robert) Kludt, Doris (Calvin) Kludt and Marilyn (Marvin) Kludt; and nieces and nephews.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Howard D. Jones; her parents; five brothers, Robert, Jr., Elmer, Calvin, Marvin, and Max (Doc) Kludt; and a sister, Hazel Johnson.
