ALPENA — Leland Erwin Krueger, 95, of Alpena, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019, after battling pancreatic cancer.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitationwill be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs.
Leland was born December 11, 1923, on the family farm to John D. and Martha (Fuehrer) Krueger. He graduated from eighth grade at Wagner Country School in 1931.
He was united in marrige to Joyce April 15, 1950. In 1952, he trained to be an airplane pilot, receiving his license in 1953. He became a member of the U.S. and Canadian Flying Farmers. In 1967, the couple purchased their farm located three miles west and one mile north of Alpena. He did custom harvesting up until 1985, and farmed his ground until 2002.
He is survived by his sons, Terry (Cheryl) Krueger of Bradshaw, Neb., and Greg (Sonja) Krueger of Alpena; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marcella Hehn of Huron, Dorothy Krog of Redfield, and Shirley (Bill) Erfman of Thorton, Colo.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; three brothers; and five sisters.
