WESSINGTON — Lowell Waters, 82, of Wessington, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018, at his home.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church in Wessington with burial following in Wessington Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Welter Funeral Home or visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Lowell Dean Waters was born on June 9, 1936, in Bates Township in Hand County to William B. and Ethelyn L. (Martens) Waters. 
Lowell married Betty Gaudig in Miller October 30, 1956, and together they farmed and raised their family in Hand County.
Lowell was a life long farmer and custom hay mover. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially telling stories and sharing jokes. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed working at the Miller Race Track where he earned the nickname, “Running Waters.” He raised cattle, sheep and hogs and cherished his many cats and dogs on the farm and was most fond of his constant companion and house dog, Freckles.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2004; four brothers, Delmar, Glen, Dale, and Alan; two sisters, May Nelson, and Mary Waters; one great-grandson, Oliver (Ollie) Block; two nephews, Victor Waters, and Chad Gaudig; and numerous brothers-and sisters-in-law.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his children, Mike Waters of Wessington, Terry (Missy) Waters of Huron, Peggy (Bryan) Kroeplin of Highmore, Sheila (Jarod) Treib of Woonsocket, and Connie (Luke) Howder of Webster. Thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and his constant companion, Freckles, his Jack Russell terrier; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
