Redfield Area wins Region 1B wrestling title

WEBSTER — The Redfield Pheasants placed first overall as five individual wrestlers were made champions in different weight classes. Redfield tallied 150 points at the Region 1B wrestling tournament, Saturday night in Webster, to edge out second placers, the Sisseton Redmen, who were close behind with 149 points. The Clark-Willow Lake Cyclones made third place with 109 points, while Webster Area took fourth with a total of 94.5.
At weight 106, Riley Whitley of Redfield won by 9-3 decision over Faulkton Area’s Gage Martinmaas in the first place match.
Redfield freshman, Bradyn Robbins won first place at 126 with a pin at 3:32 over Dylan Hagberg from Deuel.
Gage Burke, junior at Clark-Willow Lake, was runner-up in the 132 weight class after a loss to Keanan Pikarski from Sisseton.
Senior, Josh Weisbrod of Clark-Willow Lake claimed first place at 138, with a 7-1 decision over Preston Jones from Britton-Hecla, while Mason Frey of Redfield took fourth after a 5-0 decision loss to junior Trey Fortin of Warner-Northwestern.
At 145, Dylan Whitley, Redfield freshman, took a 6-5 decision win over Sisseton senior Colbey Lehrke. In the same weight class, Zach Mulder, Clark-Willow Lake senior, took fourth place with a loss to Potter County sophomore Joey Wheeler.
Hunter Wright of Redfield was fourth in the 152 weight class with a loss to Chayce Rausch from Potter County.
In the 160 weight class, Clark-Willow Lake’s Landon Werdel took third over Redfield’s Trevor Frost with a 4:45 fall.

First place at 170 was junior Caleb Orris of Clark-Willow Lake with a 7-1 decision over Webster senior Carter Shoemaker, while Drew Masat of Redfield was fourth after a 7-3 decision loss to Gage Carter of Faulkton Area.
Junior Barret Wren from Redfield was first at 182 with a 5:23 pin over senior Koben Huber from Sisseton.
At 195, Redfield’s Cooper Baloun took first place with a 7-2 decision over Wyatt Burke of Clark-Willow Lake.
Riley Schmidt of Clark-Willow Lake was third after a 2:46 pin over Britton-Hecla’s Seth Strong at 285 weight.

Region 3B
MILLER — The Region 3B wrestling tournament, held at Miller on Saturday night, was won by Winner who totaled 180 points, to lead up to the State Tournament to be held on Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls.
Parkston followed in second at 130, close behind with 128.5 was Kimball-White Lake/Platte-Geddes, and in fourth Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon tallied 123 points.
Miller/Highmore-Harrold was seventh in the tournament with 61 points, Wessington Springs-Woonsocket was ninth with 39 points, Sunshine Bible Academy took tenth place with 30 points, while 25 points landed Wolsey-Wessington in 11th place.
Conner Bertsch of Miller/Highmore-Harrold was first at 152 with an 11-2 major decision win over Dom Pechous of Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon.
Teigan Clark of Sunshine Bible took second place at the 132 weight class after being pinned at 1:12 by Jackson Eklund from Burke-Gregory. Wolsey-Wessington’s Tate Haider was third after a 2:36 pin over Winner’s Aaron Gilchrist.
At 145, Landon Sivertsen of Miller/Highmore-Harrol was second after a 7-1 decision loss to Sam Kruger from Winner.
Bailey Schmiedt of Wessington Springs-Woonsocket was fourth at 170 with a loss to Riggin Shippy of Winner, while Miller/Highmore-Harrold’s Regan Bollweg was fourth at 182 with the loss to Kezery LeBeau of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes.
Rylie Stevens of Wessington Springs-Woonsocket was fourth at 195 weight, after a pin by Rhoss Oliver of Burke/Gregory at 59 seconds.
The top four teams will continue on to the compete at the State Tournament this weekend.
