RAPID CITY — The Huron boys’ tennis team earned the Sportsmanship Award at the State Tennis Meet, which concluded Saturday in Rapid City.
The Tigers finished 18th in the final standings with a team total of 85 points.
“The boys had a very good tournament. There are a lot of positives to take away from the season,” Huron coach Tim Hedblom said. “They have all improved so much over the course of the last year. I am looking forward to next season and to the great things this team has the potential to accomplish.
“If they put the time in during the offseason, which I know they will, we can do some great things next year,” he said.

Eh Kalu earned the lone placing in the tournament for the Tigers at No. 6 singles. After suffering a setback in his opening match, he put together four straight wins to claim the consolation championship.
Kalu capped his run with an 8-3 victory against Justin Teply of Aberdeen Central.
Sioux Falls Lincoln claimed the state team title with 629 points, while Rapid City Stevens was second at 502. Sioux Falls Roosevelt finished with 428 to edge Mitchell by two points for the third spot and Sioux Falls O’Gorman was fifth at 413.
