HURON — The Mitchell Kernels took the team title at the Huron High School Gymnastics Invitational Friday at the Tiger Activity Center.
Mitchell amassed 145.55 points to edge Watertown for the team title, as the Arrows ended with 143.80. Huron scored 133 team points and Sioux Falls Lincoln was fourth at 131.6.”
Watertown’s Myah Morris took the All-Around title with 37.7 points. Mitchell’s Maria Krall was second at 37.350 and teammate Gracie Czmowski was third at 36.8.
Huron’s Erica Zell finished at 34.5, good for a seventh-place tie. Kassie Decker finished 12th and Emily Lord was 13th.
“It was a pretty good night for the Tigers,” said head coach Julie King. We had four no-fall beam routines, turned in by Emily Lord, Kaitlyn King, Kassie Decker and Jaci Bankston. It is so nice to see clean routines.”
Erica Zell tied for medalist honors in the Floor Exercise, as her 9.6 tied her with Czmowski for the top of the podium and established a new Huron High School record.
“We had awesome floor routines tonight,” King said. “Erica’s score topped the school-record 9.5 set by Kimberly Hilton in the 2000-01 season.”
Morris won the Vault with a score of 9.35, and Zell finished third with 8.85 and Decker ended in a tie for sixth with 8.65 points.
