HURON — Senior Eastyn Eichstadt will close her high school gymnastics career for Huron during the individual portion of the Class AA State Championships today at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre.

Also qualifying to compete at the event for the Tigers were junior Cameron Ruth and sophomore Ellie Puterbaugh.

“Eastyn Eichstadt and Cameron Ruth are no strangers to qualifying for the state meet as individuals,” Huron coach Julie King said. “Both are solid gymnasts that have performed well this season and previous seasons.

“Ellie Puterbaugh is a newbie to the state meet,” she said. “She has had an incredible season and is ready to show off er hard work.”

The individual competition for Class AA is slated to being at 3:30 p.m.

Eichstadt will be competing on the vault for the Tigers. She posted a season-best mark of 8.725 in the event this year.

Ruth and Puterbaugh both qualified in two events. Ruth has turned in an 8.950 on the vault this season and has a high score of 8.375 on the bars. Puterbaugh has season-best marks of 8.625 on the vault and 8.500 on the beam.

“I am excited to see how the girls compete, they have quality routines and vaults,” King said. “If the skills are executed well, they will be rewarded.”

A total of 87 gymnasts will be competing.

Bentley Bates of Mitchell holds the high scores this season in three of the four events. She leads in the floor exercise with a 9.675, on the beam with a 9.775 and on the bars with a 9.750.

Katelyn Maeschen of Harrisburg turned in a season-best mark of 9.625 on the vault.
