SIOUX FALLS — Dale Richard Kellar, 85, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Huron, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017, at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, Minn.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 20, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a Rosary to begin at 4 p.m. or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Dale Richard Kellar was born May 25, 1931, in De Smet to Benjamin T. and Alma B. (Stevenson) Kellar. He joinied the U.S. Army in 1952, and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
He was united in marriage to Verla Mae Phillips March 5, 1957. He was employed as a truck driver until 1982, when he then purchased his own truck, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and the American Legion.
He is survived by his children, Daniel (Vicki) Kellar of Sioux Falls, and Janet (Mike) Sorensen of Medford, Minn.; six grandchildren; ten great-granchildren; siblings, Elda Mahoney of Rapid City, Don Kellar of Rapid City, and Vince Kellar of Sioux Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verla; brothers, Earl, Lloyd, Eldon, and Larry Kellar; and sisters, Marge Downes, and Elva Smith.
