MT. VERNON — Mike Schoenfelder, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at his farm home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 20, at the Tom Young Community Center in Mt. Vernon. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Tom Young Community Center.
Mike Schoenfelder was born June 17, 1931, at Dimock to Joseph and Minnie (Mettler) Schoenfelder. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1951, and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Laska Lyon January 8, 1958. He was a member of the American Legion and a great community supporter.
He is survived by his children, Julie Greenway of Mt. Vernon, Joi Electa of Silver Bay, Minn., John (Sandi) Schoenfelder of Huron, Jacki (Tim) Petersen of Mitchell, Joe Schoenfelder and fiancé, Cleo of Mount Vernon; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Helen) Pollard of Mt. Vernon; his mother-in-law, Margaret Lyon Reno of Lemmon; three sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laska; and two brothers, Leo and Ray Schoenfelder.
Memorials are preferred to the Laska and Mike Schoenfelder Memorial Fund.
Arrangements are with the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
