Lady Blackhawks finish undefeated in 281 Conference

HURON — Sanborn Central-Woonsocket finished undefeated in 281 Conference play with a 53-16 victory against James Valley Christian on Monday.

The Lady Blackhawks, who are second in the Class B girls’ basketball rankings, improved to 17-1 and finished the conference slate 8-0.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket led 11-5 after the opening quarter, which was the most productive stanza for the Lady Vikings, who end the regular season at 3-17.

The Lady Blackhawks outscored JVC 17-4 for a 28-9 lead at the half and then had a 15-4 run in the third quarter for a 43-13 lead heading into the final quarter

Myah Selland led Sanborn Central-Woonsocket with a game-high 27 points, while Megan Poyer added 14 points

Poyer also snagged a team-high five rebounds for the Lady Blackhaws. She also led the way with five assists, but Selland eclipsed the 500 career assist mark for Sanborn Central-Woonsocket in the opening half.

Mallory Aughenbaugh and Samantha Dowling each had five points to lead the Lady Vikings.

Dowling also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for JVC.

Sanborn Central-Woonsocket will close the regular season on Thursday, when it travels to play Mitchell Christian.

The Lady Vikings are now off until they host Iroquois in the opening round of the District 6B Tournament at 7 p.m. Monday.

De Smet 53, Estelline 28

ESTELLINE — De Smet recorded a 53-28 victory against Estelline on Monday.

The Bulldogs, who improved to 6-10, were able to outscore their opponents 23-7 through the second and third quarter. After leading 13-11 at the end of the opening quarter, they led 24-14 at the half and 36-18 heading into the final quarter.

Gage Gruenhagen had 22 points to lead De Smet. Jon Todd also reached double figures with 11 points, while Zach Wolkow and Jordan Neises had seven and six points, respectively.

Trevin Holland pulled down a team-high seven rebounds to help the Bulldogs to a 35-29 advantage on the boards. Gruenhagen also led the team with three assists.

Davon Dahl was the lone player to reach double figures for the Redmen, who are now 2-15, with 11 points. Marcis Hausman added eight points.

Dahl, Hausman and Luis Martinez shared the rebounding honors for Estelline, with three boards each.

De Smet will be back in action Thursday, when it hosts Deuel.
