HURON The Horizon Patient Support Pantry at the James Valley Community Health Center is seeking donations of food and personal hygiene products during its December Days of Giving.
The Huron pantry opened in 2023 to serve the needs of Horizon patients who may be experiencing a lack of necessities. The first Horizon patient support pantry opened in Yankton in 2022 to serve patient needs there.
Horizon is committed to helping our patients secure resources for their medical, dental or behavioral wellness, said Horizon CEO Wade Erickson. Along with that we recognize that some of our patients lack basic elements that can play a part in their health outcomes. Our patient support pantries have done an amazing job in caring for the overall health of our patients by providing food, housing, and general support.
When a patient at Horizons Yankton, Aberdeen or Huron health centers visits a medical provider, they can also see a community health worker if they lack food, housing or even affordable Internet. The community health worker can also help with enrollment in Medicaid or the insurance marketplace. They work with local partners to help find affordable housing and other services.
Donations to the Patient Support Pantry are accepted during clinic hours from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday through Dec. 24. The food pantry is in need of $20 Caseys gas cards for out-of-town appointments, blood pressure cuffs so patients can monitor their blood pressure at home, gently used wheelchairs, walkers and crutches, N-6 diapers, diaper wipes, gently used newborn to 5T clothing, unopened baby food and formula, shampoo, conditioner, bars of soap, adult toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, laundry detergent, dryer sheets and toilet paper. Only Horizon patients are eligible to use the pantry.
The clinic is located at 1000 18th St., Suite 27. Call 605-554-1015 with questions.
