Huron gymnasts end season at state

PIERRE Huron junior Cameron Ruth earned a top-20 finish on the uneven parallel bars during the Class AA State Individual Championships on Saturday at T.F. Riggs High School.

Ruth turned in a score of 8.200 to finish 20th for the Tigers.

Senior Eastyn Eichstadt finished tied for 27th on the vault for Huron with an 8.683. Ruth was 36th on the vault with an 8.466, while sophomore Ellie Puterbaugh was 39th with an 8.233.

Puterbaugh also was 32nd on the balance beam for the Tigers with an 8.250.

Katelyn Maeschen of Harrisburg edged Bentley Bates of Mitchell for the all-around title. Maeschen finished at 38.799, while Bates turned in a 38.299.

Rounding out the top five in the all-around were Olivia Prunty of Mitchell at 37.899, Brinly Sanderson of Harrisburg at 37.365 and Jersy Tryon of Harrisburg at 37.049.

Maeschen won in the floor exercise with a 9.800. Bates claimed the top spot on the beat with a 9.650 and on the bars with a 9.766. Prunty won on the vault with a 9.783.

Huron coach Lynne Marcus was honored at the season-ending event for being selected as the Assistant Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Gymnastics Coaches Association.
