Area girls’ basketball teams to begin playoffs

Schools in Class A and Class B in South Dakota girls basketball begin the postseason this week, with regions matchup announced Saturday by the South Dakota High School Activities Association.

The Redfield Pheasants are seeded seventh in Region 1A with a 6-14 record. They will face second-seeded Aberdeen Roncalli on Tuesday.

The Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones (8-12) are seeded eighth and will face the ninth-seeded Deuel Cardinals in a play-in game today for the right to face top-seeded Flandreau Tuesday.

In Region 5A, the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks are seeded sixth with an 11-9 record and will face third-seeded Hanson Tuesday.

Miller takes a 13-7 record into the second seed in Region 6A. The Rustlers will face seventh-seeded Stanley County Tuesday.

The Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots (7-13) are seeded fifth in Region 1B. They will face Britton-Hecla Tuesday.

Multiple teams will participate in Region 2B action.

The James Valley Christian Lady Vikings hold the highest seed of any team in the Heartland, with the second seed due to a 13-6 record. They will face the Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds (7-13) Tuesday. Iroquois/Lake Preston will take a 9-11 record against Castlewood as the fifth seed. The De Smet Bulldogs earned the sixth seed with a 7-13 record and will battle Deubrook.

Wessington Springs used a 16-4 record to claim the top seed in Region 5B and on Tuesday will play the winner of Gregory and Colomes play-in game.

The Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders will take their ninth seed in Region 6B to a play-in game today against Ipswich to potentially play top seed Lyman.

The Highmore-Harrold Pirates have the seventh seed in the region with a 10-10 record and will face second-seeded Faulkton.
