Kingsbury County wins Region 1B title

GETTYSBURG Kingsbury County edged Faulkton Area for the team title by a half a point Saturday during the Region 1B Wrestling Tournament.

The Knights finished with 177 points, while Faulkton Area had 176.5 points to claim the top two spots in the 14-team event.
Clark/Willow Lake was third at 148, followed by Redfield at 133 and Groton Area at 109.

The top four finishers in each weight class qualified for the Class B State Tournament, which begins Thursday in Sioux Falls.

Kingsbury County had seven state qualifiers, including a pair of region champions.

Winning region titles for the Knights were Cody Zell at 120 pounds and Gannon Gilligan at 126.

Conner Giedd at 138 and Connor Johnson at 215 were second for Kingsbury County, while Greyson Nielson at 132 and Kaleb Johnson at 150 were third.

Breyten Johnson at 190 was fourth for the Knights.

Josh Kannegieter won a region title for Clark/Willow Lake at 175, while Cade Gaikowski at 106, Cooper Pommer at 113 and Elliot Bratland at 165 were second.

Also qualifying for the Cyclones was Austin Vig, who was third at 138.

Redfield had a pair of region champions. Maddon Odland won a title at 106, while Grady Fey claimed the title at 285.

Conner Zens at 126, Dylan Murray at 175 and Camden Murray at 190 were second for the Pheasants, while Collin Dean at 157 was third.

Region 3B
PARKSTON Miller/Highmore-Harrold qualified eight wrestlers for the state tournament, while finishing third at the Region 3B Tournament on Saturday.

Winner Area amassed 206.5 points to win the region team title, while Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes was second in the 14-team event with 178.

The Bandits were just three points back in third, followed by Bon Homme/Avon at 154.5 and Parkston at 137.

Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington was seventh at 113, while Sunshine Bible Academy was 10th at 20.

Kellen Hurd won an region championship for Miller/Highmore-Harrold at 138 pounds, while Jaymin VanDerWerff at 113, Teagan Foreman at 144, Ryder Rowland at 157 and Colby Kolda at 175 were all second.

Talon Ping at 120 and Jordan Schafer at 126 were third for the Bandits, while Chase Hurd at 106 was fourth.

Jacksen Carter at 113 and Holden Havlik at 215 claimed region titles for Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington, while Kaydin Carter at 120 was second.

Also qualifying for state with fourth-place finishes for the Warhawks were Ashton Hill at 126, Ethan Rearick at 144 and Tyson Eddy at 175.
