Sioux Falls wins Girls’ 14U state tournament

HURON Top-seeded Sioux Falls scored the first three goals en route to a 3-1 victory against Watertown in the championship game of the Girls 14U State Hockey Tournament on Sunday at Bergman Arena.

The Flyers had the lone goal in the opening period. Allie Holm scored on a pass from Aniston Murray.

Sioux Falls then stretched its lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals in the second period. Juliana Chan had the first with Halle Watson and Alyssa Ver Hoeven earning an assist. Murray scored less than a minute later with Anabel Berdahl and Evelyn Berg combining on the assists.

Watertowns lone goal came in the third period. Emma Schleusner found the net during a power play on a pass from Lily Murray.

The Flyers finished with 45 shots on goal, while Watertown had just 18 shots.

Moriah Lincoln earned the win in the net for Sioux Falls with 17 saves.

Aleyna Hudson had 42 saves for the Lakers.

Second-seeded Oahe used a 4-3 overtime win against Sioux Center to claim third-place in the Girls 14U State Hockey Tournament on Sunday at Bergman Arena.

Sioux Center opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first period. Maci Cannegieter scored with Riya Brenner and Kirsten Curiel assisting on the play.

The Capitals evened things up with the lone goal in the second period. Mallory Lehrkamp scored on a pass from Charlie Bowers.

Oahe then took the lead with Ava Lavinger scoring on a pass from Elliot Bertsch just over three minutes into the final period.

The 2-1 advantage for the Capitals lasted just 36 seconds, as Addison Svoboda pulled Sioux Center even with a power play goal. Cannegieter and Maelyn Groeneweg earned assists.

The Storm then took back the lead with Brooklyn Byl scoring on an unassisted shot.

Lehrkamp scored her second goal of the game to tie the score for Oahe with under five minuted to play in regulation. She found the net on a pass from Aubrey Stewart.

The game then went scoreless through 11 minutes of overtime until Lehrkamp earned the hat trick with her third goal of the game for the Capitals. Lavinger assisted on the game-winning shot.

Taylah Allerdings stopped 15 of the 18 shots she faced in the net for Oahe to earn the win.

Lexi Ringleberg had 22 saves for Sioux Center.
