Miles advances to semifinals for Doland

SIOUX FALLS Junior Reganne Miles of Doland recorded a pair of wins Thursday to reach the semifinals at the State Girls Wrestling Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

Miles won her opening match with a pin at the 2:49 mark of her 152-pound match against Katie Snyder of Webster Area.

She then pinned Elena Brennan of Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes in 3:38 to reach the semifinals.

Miles, who is now 25-5, will face top-seeded Abbigail Lewis of Pierre (41-0) in the semifinals today.

Senior Dani Batchelor of Clark/Willow Lake also opened the tournament with a victory. She pinned Lilly Toft of Brookings in 4:40 to reach the quarterfinals at 107.

Irini Poka of Rapid City Central derailed Batchelors bid for a championship with an 11-7 decision in the quarterfinals.

Batchelor will face the winner of the match between Darla Barnes of Lemmon/McIntosh and Essah Syverson of Custer in a second round consolation match today.

Poka pinned Chalie Sah of Huron at the 5:10 mark in their first round match at 107. Sah will face Toft in a first round consolation match today.

Also wrestling in the consolation first round today will be Kayeleigh Bowden of Huron at 138Kyla Logan of Doland at 132, Bailey Yost of Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington at 114 and Naw Htoo Ywe of Huron at 100.

Jaclyn Kyte of Yankton pinned Bowden at the 4:32 mark of their match in the opening round. Bowden will face Cheyenne Fuller of Sully Buttes in her first match today.

Giada Scherich of Lakota Tech pinned Logan at 2:47 to open the tournament. Logan will wrestle Julie Pitsenberger of Flandreau in her first match today.

Second-seeded Alexis Bryant of McCook Central/Montrose pinned Yost in 1:45 to open the tournament. Yost will face Frankie Kranz of Mitchell in her first match today.

Second-seeded Finley Evjen of Canton got past Ywe with a pin at 1:58 to open the tournament. Ywe will face Averie Brehm of Rapid City Stevens in her first match today.

Pierre led the team standings after the first day of competition with 75 points. Canton was second at 47, followed by Harrisburg at 46. Rounding out the top five were Watertown at 39.5 and Aberdeen and Lakota Tech, who shared the fifth spot with scores of 31.

The first and second round consolation matches are slated for 9:30 a.m. Today, followed by the semifinals and third round consolation matches at 3 p.m.

The placing matches are slated 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by the championship matches at 1 p.m.
