Mitchel to face Brandon Valley for AA title

SIOUX FALLS The Mitchell Kernels outscored the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors 23-9 in the first quarter, including a 12-1 run over the middle five minutes and were never led by fewer than 14 points the rest of the way, as they raced to a 72-51 win and punched their ticket into tonights Class AA State boys basketball tournaments title game at the Denny Sanford PREMIERE Center.
Gavin SOukup scored 22 points and had eight assists for the Kernels, who improve to 23-1 with the win. Markus Talley added 21 points and Colton Smith cleared 14 rebounds for Mitchell, which returns to the title game after finishing second last season. Waiting for them will be Harrisburg or Brandon Valley.
Jhace Woods scored 16 points and had eight rebounds for Washington, which falls to 15-9 with the loss. Thomas Hoffman added 10 points and had four assists for the Warriors, who will play for third place against Harrisburg or Brandon Valley

Brandon Valley 61, Harrisburg 52
SIOUX FALLS Third-seeded Brandon Valley pulled away late in the fourth quarter to secure a spot in the title game at the Class AA State Basketball Tournament with a 61-52 victory against second-seeded Harrisburg on Friday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
After leading 30-25 at the half, the Lynx clung to a 42-42 lead heading into the final quarter.
Josh Olthoff had 20 points to lead three players in double figures for Brandon Valley, which improved to 18-5.
Aiden Zerr and Heyden Anderson added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Anderson also had team highs with 12 rebounds, and four assists for the Lynx. Landon Dulaney had three steals.
Jacoby Mehrman led Harrisburg, which is 19-4, with 15 points. Braeden VanBockern had 10 points and three steals.
Maddox Plack snagged nine rebounds for the Tigers, while Mehrman had four assists.
Brandon Valley will face top-seeded Mitchell for the Class AA state championship at 7:45 p.m., today. Harrisburg will battle fifth-seeded Sioux Falls Washington for third place at 6 p.m., today.

The Sioux Falls Jefferson Cavaliers outscored the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Rough Riders 32-16 over the second and third quarters combined, and pulled away for a 60-38 win over the Riders in the first consolation semifinal Thursday afternoon at the Denny Sanford PREMIERE Center.
Daniel Jones led a quartet of Cavaliers in double figures with 12 points, while both Damaris Fields and Dawson Sechser chipped in 11 and Tyler Bohannon added 10 points and had six rebounds.
Ismail Naser was the lone Roosevelt player to dent double figures, with 12 points, and Hayden Goff cleared five rebounds for the Riders.
SFJ, 14-10, will face Watertown for fifth place, while SFR will take a record of 15-9 into the seventh-place contest against Huron.
