Ellen Hollister

HURON Ellen Hollister, age 91, of Huron, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at her home in Huron.
Her funeral service is 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 12, at First Congregational Church in Huron, with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Visitation, with the family present, is from 5 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, April 11, at Welter Funeral Home, with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Ellen Figland Hollister was born on July 12, 1932 in Mitchell, to parents Harvey and Lesta (Cundy) Figland. She graduated from Mitchell High School. Ellen married Darrell Hollister on September 3, 1950. They lived in the Huron area for more than 72 years, having spent most of it on their farm south of Huron before moving into town.
Ellen taught piano lessons for 12 years and then worked for the Huron Public Schools for 19 years. Ellen also was an accompanist for the Beadle County Chorus for several years. She was a member of Lions, PEO Chapter F, and Beadle County Extension Club.
Ellen and Darrell enjoyed dancing and camping and were members of Beadle Bums, Sams Camping, Mr. and Mrs. Dance Club and the Alpena Square Dancers. After retiring, Darrell and Ellen traveled in the winter to Arizona and California. She was a member of First Congregational Church.
She is survived by her four sons; Gary (Charolene) of Alpharetta, Ga., Tim (June) of Orcutt, Calif., Ken (Janet) of Aberdeen and Scott (Thuan) of Greeley, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, as well as her sister-in-law, Leola Figland of Mitchell.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; her parents; her grandson, Matthew Hollister; and her brother, Forrest Figland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to First Congregational Church and Beadle County Humane Society.
