Mitchell claims title in Huron Invite

HURON With four of the top eight golfers, Mitchell was able to edge Aberdeen Central for the team title during the Huron Invitational on Thursday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.

The Kernels finished with 314, while the Golden Eagles turned in a 315 in the battle for the top spot. Watertown was third in the 7-team event with a 242, while OGorman was two strokes back in fourth. Rapid City Stevens rounded out the top five with a 356.

Olivia Braun of Aberdeen Central shot a 1-over-par 73 to win the medalist honors, while Allison Meyerink of Mitchell was second at 74.

Emma Dohrer was third for the Golden Eagles with a 76, followed by Quinn Dannenbring of Mitchell with a 78. Gabi Olson of Watertown and Kyley Wirebaugh of Aberdeen Central shared the fifth spot with scores of 79, while Mitchell teammates Anna Eliason and Maddie Childs, along with Paydyn Peterson of OGorman shared the seventh spot with scores of 81.

OGorman won the junior varsity team title with a 338, while Huron was second at 368.

Sittie Kasan of Pierre shot a 90 to win the medalist honors in the JV competition. Sachi Santos of OGorman was second at 98.

Hurons Olivia Purintun carded a 111 to finish third, while Drew Rechtenbaugh of Pierre was fourth at 115.

Rounding out the lineup for the Tigers were Paige Sharron with a 128, Taylor Sorben with a 129 and Tarryn Cass with a 131.

Next up for Huron will be a junior varsity triangular in Brookings on May 9.
