BROOKINGS The Huron Tiger girls and boys track and field teams finished 8th and 9th, respectively Saturday in Brookings. Brandon Valley took the girls title and Harrisburg earned the team title in the boys competition.
Highlighting the meet was a solid showing in the girls javelin, as Hamtyn Heinz finished second, Aly Davis was sixth and Hylton Heinz took 7th in the event. Isabelle Kremer earned a second-place finish in the discus as well for the Tigers.
Lizzy Heinen tied for 7th in the high jump. Relay teams for Huron finished seventh in the 4×800, as well as eighth in both the 4×200 and 4×100 relays.
Bryan Ramirez finished second in the shot put and sixth in discus to lead the Tiger boys. Thackary Hansen took fifth in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes and the tiger Medley relay team rallied for fourth place.
Tyson Pfitzer finished sixth in the boys javelin throw for Huron.
Hurons field athletes will head to Aberdeen on Tuesday for a field-events only meet, then will return to host the Wendelgass Relays May 16, at Tiger Stadium.
MILLER Stiff competition in nearly every event was featured at the CSD meet in Miller on Saturday. Potter County claimed the girls title, edging Wolsey-Wessington, while the boys team title went to Mobridge-Pollock. Miller was second and Wolsey-Wessington was third.
In the girls competition, Wolsey-Wessington got a first place finish from Kailynn Dorris in the girls discuss, while teammate Tatum Luce took titles in the high jump and pole vault for the Lady Warbirds.
Miller was led by Joanlei Bakers individual title in the discus, while Paige Werdel won the long jump and ran a leg, along with Jolie Palmer, Gracen Werdel and Madeline Nye, on the winning Rusters Medley relay team.
Area winners in the boys race included Moshe Richmonds triumph in the high jump, while teammate Carsen Walters claimed the pole vault. The Warbirds team of Caleb Richmond, Peyton Rainford, Carson Finn and Moshe Richmond won the 4×400 relay team and won the Medley relay, with Rainford, Breydyn Skipper and both Richmonds.
Miller got wins from Alex Schumacher in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs, while Isaak Hunter broke the tape in the 110 meter hurdles. The Rustlers 4×200 meter relay team of Joseph Baker, Davin Nelson, Kord Van Zee and Colby Kolda easily won the title.
Sunshine Bible Academy got an event win from Tarrance Mickelson in the triple jump, and saw the 4×800 meter relay team of Stuart Smith, Stephan Jones, Trey Thieman and Jensen Wipf win as well.
Sunshine Bible Academy is back in action Thursday, with several other Heartland teams, at the Super Region meet in Gettysburg, while both Wolsey-Wessington and Miller are at the Platte-Geddes Last Chance Meet, on May 16.
