History enthusiasts and families alike are invited to the Dakotaland Museum, set to open its doors for the season on May 25. Located in the heart of the South Dakota State Fairgrounds at 930 Third Street Southwest, the museum promises to take visitors on a journey through time with its many collections, displays, and interactive exhibits.
The Dakotaland Museum boasts a diverse array of exhibits showcasing the rich history of Beadle County, from its earliest settlers to its more recent citizens. What sets this museum apart is its dedication to providing an enjoyable, entertaining experience for visitors of all ages. Hands-on activities include telephones, newspaper type for printing, and a kids corner.
We wanted to create a space where history comes to life, says Louise Van Poll, executive director of the museum. Every artifact has a history and a story. Our exhibits are designed to engage visitors by telling those stories.
Families are particularly encouraged to visit the museum for its educational and entertaining activities. Children can participate in scavenger hunts, touch-me stations, and imagine life in the log cabin, all designed to make learning about history a fun and memorable experience.
In addition, the Dakotaland Museum is proud to offer free admission to all visitors. This inclusive approach reflects the museums commitment to making history accessible to everyone in the community.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn about the past, says Van Poll. By offering free admission, we hope to remove any barriers that might prevent people from experiencing the wonders of our museum.
Whether youre a history buff, a curious explorer, or looking for a fun family outing, theres something for everyone to enjoy at the Dakotaland Museum.
The museum will be open daily: Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.
