HURON The middle school track and field season wrapped up Friday, as Huron Middle School hosted the Big 4 meet – with Watertown, Brookings and Mitchell – at Tiger Stadium.
At the end of the day, the Watertown girls won the 7th grade title, scoring 81 points to the 75 scored by Brookings. Brookings, however, took the girls 8th grade team race, rolling up 85.26 points, while Hurons girls had 64.
In the boys races, Brooking ended up atop the 7th grade standings with a whopping 109.4 points, to outdistance Watertown, in second with 64.6. and in the 8th grade boys Watertown edged Mitchell 82-65.
Huron had several strong performances on the day.
For the 8th grade boys, Yo Yo broke the tape in the 200 meter hurdles and finished second in the 110 hurdles. Yo Yo also claimed second in the long jump.
Ben Cardona won the discus and Jace Gerber claimed second in the event, then Gerber doubled up with a very close second-place finish in the shot put.
Ian Larson won the pole vault and Hurons 800 meter medley relay team finished second.
Hurons seventh-grade boys were led by Carter Porisch, as he won both the shot put and discus, breaking school records he had established one week earlier at the ESD Conference middle school meet.
Hurons 4×100 relay team finished second on the day.
The eighth-grade girls got wins from Reagan Bischoff in the 100 meter dash, followed in second by Lennon Magness-Caudell, before Bischoff finished second in the 200 meter dash. Huron won the 4×100 meter relay. Bischoff took the long jump title, followed in second by teammate Allyson Trujillo-Cordova, while Claire Davis won the shot put and finished second in discus for the Tigers.
The 7th grade girls were led by Arian Pfitzers win in the discus and a second place finish in the 400 meter dash by Jayla Schley.
