Holy Trinity second graders competed in the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest.
Ms. Iverson, Holy Trinitys art teacher, lead the students in creating their works of art. They talked about the anatomy of the duck, invited Elizabeth Sicard from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in to speak to the class about the Duck Stamp, wetlands, conservation, and they discussed how to make something original and not copy.
Five of the Holy Trinity students received Honorable Mentions and their artwork will be featured on a traveling display.
Students receiving Honorable Mention were Franky Osey Smith, Aveah Coca Ochoa, Kylee Erickson, Luana Trigoso Mendoza, and Anthony Carsley.
You can purchase duck stamps at the post office. While waterfowl hunters 16 years of age or older are required to purchase them, anyone can contribute to conservation by buying Duck Stamps. In addition to serving as hunting license and conservation tool, a current Federal Duck Stamp is also a free pass into any national wildlife refuge that charges an entry fee.
