Sioux Falls Christian girls lead in Class A state golf

SIOUX FALLS Sioux Falls Christian started it defense of the state title with a solid opening round at the Class A State Girls Golf Tournament on Monday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course.

The Chargers held a 21-stroke lead over Vermillion and West Central, which shared the second spot after the first 18-holes of play in the 36-hole event.

Madison was fourth, followed by St. Thomast More.

Tori Peterson of Sioux Falls Christian, Hayden Thorton of Rapid City Christian and Kaitlin Strain of St. Thomas More shared the lead after the opening round with scores of 77.

Dakotah Larson of West Central, Ronnie Wilham of Vermillion, Katie Betsworth of Dakota Valley and Ari Jacobs of West Central shared the fourth spot with scores of 78.

Addisyn Evans of Redfield finished the opening round with a 115 to share the 75th spot.

The final 18 holes of play is scheduled today, starting at 8 a.m.
