HURON The Renner Post 307 16U team swept a pair of games from the Huron 16U squad on Monday at Klock Field.
Rough defense plagued both games for Huron, as the team committed 12 errors between the two games.
In the opener, Huron starter Jeremy Hofer pitched around trouble to hold Renner to a 2-0 lead entering the fifth inning, but Post 307 exploded for seven runs that inning and added three more in the top of the sixth to come away with a 12-0 victory.
Hofer went four innings, allowing five runs on five hits and six walks, striking out six. Nolan Stahly came in relief, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over 1 1/3 innings. Korbin Brock tossed the final 2/3 inning to close out the game.
The Huron offense was only able to muster four baserunners, with no hitter reaching base twice. Cooper Bischoff did swipe two bags.
Renner came out quick in the nightcap, with a 3-2 lead after the second inning, but Huron put up three runs in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead, but Post 307 came back to tie the game at five, sending the game to extra innings, where Renner plated a pair of runs in the eighth inning to win 7-5.
Hurons seven errors meant that only two of the seven runs allowed by Tiger pitchers were earned. Crayton Siedschlag opened the game on the mound, allowing four runs over five innings on one hit and four walks, striking out five. Carter Porisch relieved for three innings, preventing Renner from getting a single hit, but he allowed two runs on three walks, striking out three.
Huron put 17 runners on base with nine hits, five walks, and three hit by pitch. Hofer and Anderson Porisch led the offensive attack, with Hofer tallying a double, single, and a walk while Porisch had a double, a single, and was hit by pitch.
Hunter Fenske and Chase Schuchhardt each had a single and a walk. Carter Porisch walked twice.
Oakley Anderson had a double and Siedschlag had a stolen base in the loss.
The 16U club will take a 2-2 record into Sunday action, when they host Yankton for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
