Post 7 records split in doubleheader against Watertown

WATERTOWN The Huron Post 7 Tigers split a pair of games on the road Thursday against Watertown Post 17.

Huron jumped out to a five-run lead in top of the second inning, but tough defense led to eight runs for Watertown over the next two innings and Hurons offense simply couldnt keep up, with Watertown walking off with a 17-7 run rule win.

Layne Wenzel made the start for Post 7, allowing eight runs (five earned) over three innings on eight hits and three walks, striking out two. Tommie Martin pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits and three walks, striking out two.

Wenzel attempted to support his own cause with a double and two singles. Bubba Peterson had a pair of doubles.

Kolten Ogle slapped a pair of singles and Brady Feenstra drew a pair of walks for Huron. Jack Pedersen had a double.

Pedersen made an early lead stand up in the nightcap as Huron scored three runs in the first inning of a 4-2 victory.

Pedersen pitched six innings allowing two unearned runs on two hits and three walks, striking out five. Peterson pitched a scoreless inning to close the game.

Three Tigers had a pair of hits in the game. Wenzel had a pair of singles and a stolen base. Jackson Mattke and Ogle each had two singles.

Logan Leyendecker had a double and a walk while Peterson walked twice at the top of the lineup.

Huron will take a 3-6 record on the road against Sioux Falls Post 15 Tuesday for a doubleheader.
