Letter – McEnelly 6-14-24

To the Editor:

Science made some predictions three decades ago.

Extreme weather

a. Of the 20 hottest years ever, 19 have occurred in the last 20 years.

b. Since mid-February, America has 1,000 mile storm fronts 150 miles wide…daily! Really? Check out ABCs David Muir at 5:30.

Hey, Boomers, how often were inland storms big enough to mention on national news in the 60s and 70s? How often were towns hit by tornadoes? If 12 people were killed during a tornado season, it was notable. Whats it like, now?

a. We set records on the number of named hurricanes the last two years. This year, The National Oceanographic Aeronautic Administration has already predicted 25 named storms for the Atlantic Coast.

b. We still have over two weeks before summer, yet California, Nevada, Arizona and Texas are experiencing 105 to 115 degree temps. The Gulf States arent faring much better.

Of course, this is not just an American issue; its worldwide. Things will not get better unless we change our ways quickly because what is going on today was predicted to happen between 2050 and 2100.

Does anyone remember Donald Trump in 2016? Climate change is the greatest hoax ever foisted on the American Public! And the crowd went wild! Sadly, many still believe what he said.

Because of his statement, a very serious worldwide issue is now a Republican/Democrat situation with about half of our citizens refusing to support anything related to address the first two a and b issues, because the second a and b dont exist. They arent our fault; its just part of natures cycle.
