Leadership Huron awards monies to local organizations

HURON The 2024 Leadership Huron class presented four awards Thursday to groups in the Huron community.

The class awarded $35,500 toward community projects this year and four of the awards were presented on Thursday at the Campus Center.

The Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau was awarded $5,000 toward the purchase and eventual installation of new downtown street banners, which will be installed after the construction work downtown is complete.

Danyelle Brotherton, childrens librarian at the Huron Public Library, was overcome when presented a check for $8,500 toward the librarys afterschool program, an amount more than what was originally pledged to the program by Leadership Huron.

Im trying not to cry, an emotional Brotherton stated.

The class presented $1,000 to Jen Bragg of the United Way to assist with replacing signage on the Born Learning Trail. Bragg noted that the new signs would include Spanish and Karen translations as well.

Finally, the new Little Blossom Learning Center was presented with a $5,000 award.

The class noted that the original goal was to distribute $20,000 to community groups, with a large project with the Huron Parks & Recreation Department for a shed at Ravine Lake as the largest funding item.

Grants received from Modern Woodmen and the Huron Community Foundation as well as better-than-expected revenue from the main fundraising efforts by the group led to the ability to award additional funds to groups and to make additional funding awards.

Brianna Johnson of the Huron Chamber noted the community support for one of the groups fundraisers, Casino Night, has likely positioned that as an annual fundraiser for future Leadership Huron classes as well.

The 2024 class of Leadership Huron will graduate in August.
