A look back in time

Huron native Lee Halvorsen recently discovered pictures of his grandfather, Ed Halvorsen, taken in the press room of the newspaper, which was then called the Huronite.

Ed Halvorsen worked at the Huronite for 30-plus years as a Linotype operator.

I wanted to show you what the old Huronite press room looked like 70 years ago, wrote Lee Halvorsen, who left Huron in 1971 and now lives in Virginia. I remember noise, heat, pressure . . . lots of loud, big stuff.

Ed Halvorsen retired from the newspaper in 1955.
