Mutchelknaus receives Friend of Rodeo Award

HURON Doris Mutchelknaus of Huron received the Friends of Rodeo Award during the 2024 Heartland 4-H Rodeo.

Mutchelknaus served as a timer during the two-day event this year. She has timed at nearly every 4-H, high school and junior high rodeo held in Huron the past 34 years, as well as the inaugural Mason Moody and Jazz McGirr Invitational, which was held in November at the DEX on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds.

In addition to being a timer for the Heartland 4-H Rodeo, Mutchelknause has donated countless hours picking rocks, cleaning and painting at the Hearland 4-H Rodeo Arena on the east edge of Huron.

She has also donated her time for multiple NBHA Barrel events, along with the Est Fest, which is an all-woman trail ride held every year in South Dakota.

Mutchelknaus and her husband, Jay, are owners of Fair City Foods in Huron. The business has supported and sponsored several 4-H and youth activities for several years.

The couple has also served as the sponsor for the steer wrestling event at the Heartland 4-H Rodeo in memory of their son, Bo, who was active in 4-H and rodeo. They also host the Big Bo Basketball Classic in Wolsey each year.

Mutchelknaus also has several grandkids, who participate in 4-H rodeo.
