Wolsey-Wessington 38, Estelline-Hendricks 22
WOLSEY – The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds came out strong and rolled up 415 yards of offense, but the Estelline-Hendricks Redhawks got momentum before halftime and challenged the No. 3-ranked Warbirds before the home team came away with a 38-22 opening game victory.

The Warbirds were led by Caleb Richmond with 173 yards and three touchdowns through the air on 10 of 13 passing and 78 yards and a touchdown rushing. Peyton Rainford led the Warbirds ground attack, rushing 13 times for 106 yards and a touchdown and grabbing two touchdown receptions for 67 yards total.

Colin Hughes had five catches for Wolsey-Wessington for 85 yards and a touchdown. Hughes added three sacks on defense, including one for a safety, to go with five solo tackles and five tackle assists. Moshe Richmond led the defense with eight solo tackles and three assisted tackles.

The Warbirds will travel to Deubrook Friday.

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 28, Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan 13
BRIDGEWATER – In a battle between two of the top teams in Class 11B, the No. 4-ranked Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks defeated the Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks (receiving votes) 28-13 Friday in Bridgewater.

Holden Havlik had a big game at quarterback for the Blackhawks, completing 20 of 32 passes for 291 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 15 yards on six attempts.

Payton Uecker led W/WS/SC with 74 yards rushing on 13 attempts. Ryder Michalek was Havliks favorite target, grabbing 11 balls for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Colby Flowers and Sam Poncelow each added a touchdown grab. Flowers secured four receptions for 86 yards while Poncelow had three catches for 40 yards.

The Blackhawks will host Lead-Deadwood at Wessington Springs on Friday.

Iroquois/Lake Preston 36, Wilmot 26
WILMOT – The Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks jumped out to a 28-14 halftime lead and held on for a 36-26 victory Friday night in Wilmot.
The Sharks will host Hitchcock-Tulare at Iroquois Thursday.

Arlington 14, Sunshine Bible 0
MILLER The Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders had a strong defensive effort but the Arlington Cardinals defense was better, and the Cardinals came away with a 14-0 victory in the season opener at Sunshine Bible on Friday.

Greyson Nielson shook free for a 33-yard touchdown scamper for Arlington in the first quarter and Brecken Vossler punched in the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. That score would hold until midway through the third quarter, when Arlington quarterback Leilan Farstad found Kahne Hanson for a 30-yard score.

Farstad was two of three passing for Arlington for 39 yards and a score. Jake Burns led the Cardinals, now 1-0, in rushing with 87 yards on 18 carries. Nielson finished with 41 yards on three carries and a score.

Troy Paul led the SBA (0-1) defense with 10 tackles, two for loss, while also leading the Crusaders in rushing with 29 yards on nine carrie. Ross Vander Vorst recorded two sacks.

The SBA passing game accounted for 83 yards, with Jimmy Burma hauling in three receptions for 42 yards.

The Crusaders travel to Oldham-Ramona-Rutland next week.
