Iroquois/Lake Preston 3, James Valley Christian 0
IROQUOIS The Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks and James Valley Christian Lady Vikings squared off in a 281 Conference matchup to open the volleyball season Tuesday in Iroquois, with the Sharks coming away with a dominant 3-0 sweep.

In the opening game, Iroquois followed excellent serving from Hadlee Holt and Natalie Cundy to build a 14-1 lead. A late 5-0 run by the Lady Vikings allowed the visitors to climb within 25-10 by the end.

The late run by JVC spilled over to the start of the second set as the two teams were knotted at 9-9 when ILP took over the set, going on a 10-0 behind Cundys serving en route to a 25-12 Shark victory.

Strong serving from Trinity Perlet pushed the Sharks out to a 5-0 lead to open the final set. The two teams would play back and forth until a long run with Holt serving pushed Iroquois/Lake Preston past 20 on the way to a 25-16 victory for the sweep.

Miller 3, Kimball/White Lake 0
WHITE LAKE The Miller Rustlers sprinted to a 3-0 whitewashing of the Kimball-White Lake WiLdKats Tuesday night in non-conference volleyball action.

Set scores for the Rustlers, ranked in the top-five of Class A preseason polls, were 25-14, 25-13 and 25-9.

Miller was led by Aleah Schlechters eight kills and two aces, while Gracen Werdel and Paige Werdel each had six kills. Kate Lichty had five kills and three aces.

Olivia Resel had the Miller offense on cruise control, passing out 28 assists in the match and recording five aces, while Jolie Palmer had three aces, four assists and led the defense with 11 digs.

No individual stats were available for Kimball-White Lake.

Miller hosts Winner on Thursday in its home opener.

Wolsey-Wessington 3, Arlington 0
ARLINGTON The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds, receiving votes in the preseason Class B volleyball poll, swept the first match of the season on the road against the Arlington Cardinals with three 25-18 scores.

The Lady Warbirds were led on the attack by Timber Haeder with nine kills while Samara Clemente had seven kills and had four blocks. Kendal Uttecht set up the W-W offense with 33 assists and Shae Uttecht keyed the defense with 15 digs.

Arlington falls to 0-1 despite 15 digs and 12 kills from Jaelyn Huntimer.

The Lady Warbirds will travel to No. 3 Northwestern Thursday.

Ipswich 3, Highmore-Harrold 1
HIGHMORE The Ipswich Tigers rolled to a 3-1 win over the Highmore-Harrold Pirates in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday night. Set scores for the winners were 25-17, 25-7, 23-25 and 25-16.

Ipswich was led by Marley Guthmillers 13 kills, while Natalie Crissman notched six aces in the match/ Reaghan Bowers had 39 assists, and Josie Knutson added 32 assists and four aces.

Addison McDonnell led Highmore with nine kills. Jada Baloun added five kills and two blocks, while Brooklyn Baloun had 13 assists, 11 digs and an ace.

Highmore-Harrold visits James Valley Christian on Tuesday.

Faulkton Area 3, Sunshine Bible Academy 0
MILLER The Faulkton Area Trojans romped to a 3-0 win over the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders (25-17, 25-11, 26-16) in non-conference volleyball action at the SBA Gymnasium.

Presleigh Martinmaas had eight kills and Anika Mueller added five for the Trojans. Carley Cotton had 25 assists and seven big service aces and Grace Kopecky added four aces for Faulkton Area.

The Crusaders were led by Soleil Mickelsons two kills. Abby Hinman,. Dakota Boersma and Kennedy Keck all had an ace.

SBA travels to Aberdeen Christian on Sept. 6.

Hanson 2, Wessington Springs 1
ALEXANDRIA The Hanson Beavers took a victory over the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans 2-1 in the Hanson Early Bird Classic in Alexandria.

Set scores for Hanson were 25-18, 20-25, and 25-21.

Jazzy Campbell led Hanson (1-0) with seven kills and three ace serves.

Ava Doyle nailed four service aces and had six kills for the Beavers.

Claire Bridge keyed the Hanson defense with 26 digs.

Ashlyn Weber led the Springs attack with nine kills. Mariah Messmer had four service aces and 33 assists.

The Lady Spartans will play Avon in the Hanson tourney on Thursday.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian 2, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 0
ALEXANDRIA The Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder swept the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks 25-19 and 25-23 in the opening round of the Hanson Early Bird Classic in Alexandria Tuesday.

The Thunder were led by excellent serving and net work from Mahpiya Irving with five service aces and six blocks. She also had six assists. Syrianna Never Miss A Shot had 13 digs.

The Blackhawks fell to 0-1 despite Kaylie Robinson nailing five kills and posting two blocks. She also had nine digs and a pair of ace serves. Kali Hofer led SCW with seven assists.

The Blackhawks will face Freeman Thursday.

Castlewood 3, Clark/Willow Lake 0
CASTLEWOOD The Castlewood Warriors swept the visiting Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones Tuesday in Castlewood by scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 25-18.

No individual statistics for Castlewood were available.

The Cyclones were led by Shay Michalski with nine kills on 23 of 26 hitting and a pair of blocks. Avery Lee had 46 digs and Sami Brenden set up the CWL offense with 17 assists.

The Cyclones (0-1) will host Sioux Valley in Willow Lake on Thursday.

De Smet 3, Howard 0
DE SMET – The De Smet Bulldogs opened the season with a three-set win over the Howard Tigers Tuesday in De Smet.

Set scores for De Smet were 25-16, 25-9, and 25-10.

Hazel Luethmers had a big night for the Bulldogs, with 13 kills and six blocks. Alyssa Aslesen had five service aces.

Megan Dylla had a strong all-around game for De Smet, with 20 assists and six digs on defense.

Howard was led by Tana Hoyer on the attack with four kills and two blocks.

The Bulldogs will host Deubrook Area on Thursday.
