HURON A wide variety of new and popular events will be held during the South Dakota State Fair. Here are a few of the highlights at this years fair
Red A Taylor Swift Tribute sponsored by American Bank & Trust on Monday, Sept. 2, is a jaw-dropping, faithful recreation of a live Taylor Swift concert, an authentic recreation of a live show.
Lauren Corzines on-stage appearance and show leaves Swifties feeling like they are watching Taylor Swift herself live in concert! In fact, the LA Times recently took notice of Laurens incredible likeness to Taylor Swift.
At a RED show, fans are treated to an epic journey through Taylor Swifts entire discography. The first 500 people through the gates get a limited-edition S.D. State Fair friendship bracelet.
The American Revolutionary Experience at Younger Hall will showcase the way of life for an ordinary person affected by the events of the American Revolutionary War using an innovative pop-up exhibition. The event is meant to connect modern audiences with the fascinating story of our nations origin and will introduce visitors to a cast of real, historical people and the places they lived, worked, and fought for our freedom. The event will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28, through Monday, Sept. 2.
New entertainment offerings are available each day with the six stages of free entertainment. This year will feature Funk-Uh-Fried, a show that brings old-school funk with a modern soul flair for the whole family to enjoy; Poppa Norton Bear, a mix of Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie, and Haggard country music, filled with redneck humor and midwestern charm; Mad Chad the chainsaw jugglers family friendly show is sure to get your adrenaline pumping; Robot Rangers; and Wildlife Adventure Center Reptile and Animal Show.
Also new this year, DAV Bingo will be held every day except Thursday, Aug. 29 in the Veterans Building from noon to 7 p.m.
All proceeds and donations go to Support our Rural Transportation of Veterans Program.
The Seeing Double lookalike contest will be held Monday, Sept. 2, at the Farm Bureau Dakotaland Stage and will have mother/daughter and father/son categories.
The Voice of the Family Battle is an exciting competition where families compete to see who can call each other the loudest and most creatively, showcasing their vocal skills and family spirit on Monday, Sept. 2, at the Farm Bureau Dakotaland Stage.
The Legoland competition will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the Arts/Education Building. Each contestant will build any design they choose without a time limit. All creations will be on display for the duration of the State Fair and judging will be held on Monday, Sept. 2.
Back by Popular Demand, ARCY sponsored by Dakotaland Federal Credit Union will paint a different mural each day of the fair on 8 X 12 walls. ARCY is known for his paint splashed style of large-scale street art, and the State Fair displays these paintings around the fairgrounds the following year.
