Watertown golfers capture team title at Huron Invitational

HURON Sawyer Sonnenschein of Pierre took the individual medal on Thursday in the Huron Invite at Broadland Creed Golf Course in Huron, but his team finished one stroke behind Watertown for the team title.

The Arrows shot six-over to win a tight team race, as Pierre shot seven-over and Harrisburg finished +8. Watertown placed two golfers in the top five and four in the top 20 to push for the team mark.

Sonnenschein carded a four-under for Pierre to take home individual honors, beating out Charlie Swift of Harrisburg (-3) and Max Stemwedel of Watertown (-2).

Taten Mauney of OGorman carded an even-par 72 to finish fourth.

Watertowns Jaden Solheim and Yanktons Parker Riley tied for fifth place with a score of one over par.

Easton Vellek (Yankton), Drew Simon (OGorman), Owen Jorgenson (Brandon Valley), Riley Christensen (Harrisburg), and Everett Morrison (Mitchell) each shot a two-over 74 for a five-way tie at seventh place.

Riley Jankord paced the Huron golfers with a 105 to tie for 72nd place. Emrick DeDeyne shot 109, Ben Kleinsasser 118, Reminton Wipf 121, and Connor Dragt 134 for Huron.

Huron golf is back in action on Tuesday at the Aberdeen Central Invite.
