Miller 3, Winner 1
MILLER The Miller Rustlers, ranked No. 4 in Class A in preseason rankings, moved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-1 victory over the Winner Warriors on Thursday in Miller.

Set scores for the Rustlers were 20-25, 25-22, 25-22, and 25-27.
The Rustlers had a strong night on the attack, with four hitters in double-figures for kills. Paige Werdel and Aleah Schlechter each had 15 kills to lead the way. Werdel was 35 of 40 hitting and added four blocks while Schlechter was 46 of 55 hitting and had three blocks.

Kaihlyn Anderberg was 26 of 29 hitting with 11 kills and Gracen Werdel was 29 of 33 hitting with 10 kills and had four block and 10 digs as well.

Olivia Resel set up the Miller attack, going 155 of 158 setting with 53 assists and was 16 of 18 at the service line with an ace. Jolie Palmer was 32 of 33 receiving with 41 digs. Kate Lichty was 12 of 17 from the service line with a pair of aces.

No individual scores were available for Winner, now 1-1.

Miller hosts Sioux Falls Lutheran this afternoon in Miller.

Deubrook Area 3, De Smet 2
DE SMET The Deubrook Area Dolphins outlasted the De Smet Bulldogs in a five-set match on Thursday in De Smet by scores of 25-11, 22-25, 25-20, 13-25, and 15-13.

The Dolphins move to 1-0 behind nine kills and three aces from Zoey Molengraaf. Matte Bauman set up the offense with 29 assists while Kylee Johnson had eight kills and eight digs for Deubrook.

The Bulldogs fall to 1-1 despite a monster game from Hazel Luethmers with 23 kills, 11 digs, five blocks, and three service aces. Mirra Beck had 10 kills and four aces while Megan Dylla dished out 41 assists.

De Smet will travel to Wolsey to face Wolsey-Wessington Tuesday.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 2, Wessington Springs 1
ALEXANDRIA The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks took fifth place in the Hanson Early Bird Tournament with a 11-25, 25-10, 25-17 victory over the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans Thursday.

The Blackhawks move to 2-1 on the season behind nine kills and two blocks from Liz Boschee. Kaylie Robinson had seven kills, seven digs, and four service aces.

Kali Hofer paced the SCW offense with 14 assists while Alexa Goertz topped the team with 11 digs.

The Lady Spartans fell to 1-2 despite a strong serving match that resulted in 11 service aces at a team. Kendall Kolousek led Springs with three aces while also pacing the team with four kills.

Remie Roduner had 17 digs for the Lady Spartans and Mariah Messmer had six assists.

In consolation semifinal action earlier on Thursday, the Blackhawks swept the Freeman Flyers 25-20 and 25-23.

Robinson led the Blackhawks with seven kills and eight digs. Hofer set the offense with 13 assists.

Vaida Ammann had four kills, two service aces, and eight set assists to lead the Flyers.

The Lady Spartans reached the consolation championship with a 11-25, 25-21 and 25-18 victory over the Avon Lady Pirates earlier Thursday.

Messmer filled up the stat sheet for Springs, with three kills, two blocks, 16 set assists, 16 digs, and three ace serves. Roduner had 30 digs on defense while Raygen Teveldal led the way with eight kills and two blocks.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket will host Hanson on Tuesday while Wessington Springs heads on the road to Iroquois to face Iroquois/Lake Preston.
