Tigers run strong at John Collignon Invitational

MADISON The Huron Tiger cross country teams had a solid outing Friday, competing at the John Collignon Invitational, run over the Madison Country Club golf course.

The Brookings Bobcats had four of the top five finishers in the boys varsity race. Brookings senior Jonathan Kahler broke the tape in 17:21.65 to claim medalist honors. Teammates Ernest Ting and Trevin Lounsbury were next over the line as the Bobcats finished the meet with 11 points.

James Valley Christian finished second in the team race with 51 points, led by Kaden Obers eighth-place finish, while teammate Dax Frandsen was 14th. Huron, which finished sixth as a team, was led by Alex Pester and James Weir, who tied for 24th place.

The girls varsity title was claimed by Chamberlain, as the Cubs totaled 31 points, edging JVC by six points.

Maci Licht of Sioux Valley won the girls race in a time of 20:20.07. Chamberlains Grace Phillips was second, edging both Hadasah Olson and Daril Frandsen of JVC.

Huron earned a fifth-place finish in the team race, led by Josie Vliegers ninth-place finish. Lily Swanson was 17th and Nora Pester finished 18th.

The highlight of the day for Huron was Hannah Schoenfelders win in the JV race. Coach Angie Thomas noted that Schoenfelder ran early to allow her to get back to Huron for 4-H competition at the State Fair, and ran a personal best 18:01.02 to win the race. Teammate Reva McGaugh was ninth. The Tigers didnt field a full JV team.

Hurons JV boys team finished third at the meet, led by Max Radke (10th) and Henry Kruse (13th) on the day. Brookings won the JV boys title, sending the first three runners across the finish line, led by Dylan Haar, in a time of 14:11.20.

Middle school runners from Huron finished 3rd in the girls race and fifth in the boys division. Harper Spilde finished fourth in a personal best for the girls, while teammate Natalee McGaugh was 20th.

In the boys MS finish, Corbin Fuchs was 9th and Charleston Wachter finished 18th.
