Area runners compete in McCook Central-Montrose Invitational

SALEM The Chamberlain Cubs won the girls title and Madison took the boys championship Tuesday at the McCook Central-Montrose Invitational cross country meet at the McCook Country Club.

Chamberlain totaled 15 points to edge Flandreau by six points in the girls race, with four runners in the top 10.

Flandreaus Faith Wiese was first across the line in a time of 19:16.73.
Dell Rapids Rorie Thoreson was second and Chamberlains Grace Phillips was third.

Wessington Springs finished seventh in the team race, and De Smet had runners participate, but didnt field a full team.

Individually, De Smets Adalyn Gross finished 12th, Alexis Roesler of Wessington Springs was 21st and her teammates Ella Kolousek and Masynn Mebius finished 34th and 35th, respectively.

Madison had 19 team points in the boys race, and Flandreau was again second, eight points back with 27 points.

De Smet was fifth in the boys team totals. Finley McConniel of Freeman Academy was medalist in a time of 17:14.56, with Madisons Dylan Gerdes finishing second, and Freemans Lane McCune was third.

Heartland athletes included Jordan Botkin of De Smet was 24th, and teammate Chase Temme was 30th. Wessington Springs top finisher was Ranick Fjerstad was 58th.
