Sharks, Bulldogs participate in Lake Preston Invitational
LAKE PRESTON The Iroquois/Leke Preston Sharks and De Smet Bulldogs both ended the day in the winners bracket of the 45th annual Lake Preston Invitational, held Saturday in Lake Preston.
The Bulldogs lost in the championship to Sioux Valley 25-22 and 25-20.
Sioux Valley was led by Adison Renkly with nine kills. Kaedyn Sapp added eight kills and had four service aces.
Hazel Luethmers led De Smet with five ace serves and added five kills. Ivey Schoenfelder had six kills to pace the Bulldogs.
Aubree Blue had 10 digs and Megan Dylla was 37 of 37 setting with 11 assists for De Smet.
De Smet opened the day with a three-set victory over Flandreau, 16-25, 25-14, and 25-16.
Luethmers had 17 kills and five blocks in the win for the Bulldogs. Dylla was 65 of 66 setting with 26 assists and Mirra Beck had 15 digs.
The Bulldogs swept past Arlington 25-17 and 25-20 to move to the title match.
Luethmers had 11 kills and four blocks to lead the Bulldogs. Dylla had 19 assists on 53 of 53 setting.
De Smet is now 6-7 and will travel to James Valley Christian on Tuesday.
Iroquois/Lake Preston took home fourth place, falling to Arlington in the consolation championship by scores of 25-5 and 25-17.
Hadlee Holt led the Sharks with 13 digs and three kills.
The Sharks defeated Waverly-South Shore to open the day, 25-20 and 25-18.
Holt had a strong all-around game with 14 digs, two service aces and six kills, all team-high marks. Kera Dubro also had a pair of aces at the service line.
Sioux Valley swept ILP in the semifinal match, 25-21 and 25-19.
Adison Renkly had eight kills and two blocks to lead the way for Sioux Valley.
Holt had two service aces and 11 digs in the match for ILP. Amelia Holland led the Sharks with five kills.
The Sharks (2-8) are on the road against Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday in Hitchcock.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 0
FORESTBURG The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks swept past the Oldham-Romana-Rutland Raiders 25-12, 25-20 and 25-16 in Forestburg on Saturday.
Alexa Goertz had a big game for the Blackhawks, now 8-5. She nailed seven aces from the service line while also adding 11 digs and two blocks to lead the team. She also had four kills.
Liz Boschee knocked down 12 kills to lead the Blackhawks. Kaylie Robinson added 10 kills. Kenzie Schley had 11 assists and two service aces.
The Raiders (2-8) were led by Camlin Schneider with six kills on 26 of 30 hitting. Bella Malisch had two aces on 6 of 9 serving.
The Blackhawks travel to Wolsey-Wessington on Tuesday.
Miller wins Big Dakota Conference tournament
FORT PIERRE The Miller Rustlers, ranked fifth in Class A in the most recent state volleyball polls, coasted to a conference championship Saturday at the Big Dakota Conference tournament at Stanley County school.
The Rustlers opened the day with a 25-2 and 25-9 sweep over Crow Creek.
Paige Werdel was 20 of 21 hitting in the match with 12 kills. Olivia Resel was a perfect 26 of 26 setting with 13 assists. Gracen Werdel had four aces on 12 of 12 serving.
Miller then swept Todd County 25-12 and 25-12.
Aleah Schlechter had seven kills for Miller. Gracen Werdel and Palmer each had three aces and five digs to lead the team.
The Rustlers then swept past Winner 25-12 and 25-21.
Jolie Palmer had 16 digs to lead the Miller defense while Resel had 15 assists on 55 of 59 setting. Paige Werdel led the Rustlers with five kills on 21 of 23 hitting.
In the championship, Miller defeated Mobridge-Pollock 25-8 and 25-13.
Aleah Schlechter had three aces on 9 of 9 serving and added four kills. Gracen Werdel had six kills and six digs to lead the Rustlers.
Paige Werdel, Jolie Palmer, and Aleah Schlechter were selected to the all-tournament team.
Miller will take an 11-1 record on the road Tuesday to Redfield.
