Huron, JVC runners compete in Clyde Cotton Invitational

HURON Hadasah Olson of James Valley Christian turned in a strong performance during the girls varsity race in the Clyde Cotton Invitational, which was held Saturday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.

Olson, who was the top area finisher, turned in a time of 20:32.89 to finish 14th overall in the meet, which was hosted by Huron and featured several Class AA teams.

The Lady Vikings were eighth in the final girls team standings with 164.

Tea Area won the girls title with 60 points, while Spearfish was second with 68 points. Rounding out the top five were Watertown at 90, Aberdeen Central at 115 and Pierre at 120.

Eighth-grader Grace McElroy was the top runner in the varsity girls race at 18:58.80. Grace Phillips, an eighth-grader from Chamberlain was second at 1921.69.

Rounding out the top five in the girls race were Jaycie Babb of Tea Area at 19:27.20, Kori Keil of Spearfish at 19:47.15 and Juna Ramey of Aberdeen Central at 19:58.65.

Daril Frandsen of JVC just missed a top-20 finish, with a time of 20:42.12, while teammate Andee Frandsen was 26th at 21:27.81.

Josie Vlieger was the top runner for Huron. She finished 40th at 21:58.81.

Nora Pester and Lily Swanson finished in spots No. 50 and 55, respectively, for the Tigers with times of 22:21.78 and 22:39.23.

Micaiah Brantner rounded out the lineup for JVC, finishing 69th at 23:26.57.

James Valley Christian and Huron finished No. 10 and 11, respectively, in the varsity boys standings.

Aberdeen Central had 49 points to edge Brookings by two points for the top spot. Custer was third at 118, followed by Watertown at 121 and Pierre at 140.

Trevin Lounsbury of Brookings won the varsity boys race in 16:07.62, while Carson Urlacher of Aberdeen Central was second at 16:20.26.

Sean Shipp of Custer was third at 16:22.39, followed by Ernest Ting of Brookings at 16:25.38 and Caleb Morris of Pierre at 16:26.89.

Freshman Kaden Ober led James Valley Christian with a time of 187:51.58 to finish 25th.

Senior TJ Lien was the top Huron runner, finishing 30th at 18:07.58.

Teagan Lien was 45th for the Tigers at 18:48.29, while James Weir was 69th at 19:51.78.

Tayne Herrmann, Giddeon Waldner and Levi Crandall finished with seven spots of each other for JVC. Herrmann was 60th at 19:23.20, Waldner was 63rd at 19:36.41, while Crandall was 67th at 19:41.38.

Angelina Medina was the fourth runner for Huron, finishing 76th at 20:30.05.

The Huron cross country teams will be at the Russ Strande Invite on Thursday in Brookings. James Valley Christian will be at the Clark/Willow Lake Invitational in Clark on Thursday.
