HURON The Paul and Carol Hohm Fund, established in 2008 with the South Dakota Community Foundation, made its annual distribution of more than $37,000 this week, to 10 community non-profit organizations.
In the 13 years of distributions from the Paul and Carol Hohm Fund, more than $400,000 has been earmarked to non-profit organizations in the Huron area.
The Paul and Carol Hohm Fund was established in partnership with the South Dakota Community Foundation, a public non-profit organization that is celebrating its 37th Anniversary this year.
With careful investment by the SDCF, the Paul and Carol Hohm Fund will continue to grow and enhance the quality of life in the local Huron area forever.
These organizations will receive an annual gift in perpetuity from the fund said Marilyn Hohm Hoyt and Dr. Robert Hohm of Huron, children of Dr. Paul and Carol Hohm and distributors of the grant funds.
The gifts from the Paul and Carol Hohm Fund will be used as follows:
Nordby Center/Hohm Courts with several sports each requiring a different court area, automatic cranks to raise & lower basketball hoops will be installed with remainder used to update equipment.
Huron Hockey Association For the scholarship fund for registration fees to afford the opportunity of any family in need to participate in the hockey program. Scholarship monies allow HHA to focus more of our operating funds toward keeping overall player/member costs down.
James Valley Christian School to continue our mission of providing a biblically based education, transforming hearts and minds to impact the world for Christ.
United Way Heartland Region partnering with 19 agencies to bring the work of 40 programs to residents of Beadle County residents of all ages and backgrounds.
Huron Area Girl Scouts – to support the Girl Scout program in the Huron area through scholarships and learning skills they will use for a lifetime.
Boy Scouts-Huron Area – for Scouting Programs in the Huron area to help todays youth become tomorrows leaders by giving Youth the opportunity to try new things, learn the joys of giving back to the community, teaching ethical standards, and building self-confidence through accomplishing challenging tasks.
Salvation Army – for the Genesis Feeding Program and Food Pantry;
American Red Cross to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
First Presbyterian Church to replace the church buildings north door.
Pyle House Museum shelving and organizational boxes in storage room
