CASTLEWOOD The De Smet girls cross country team finished third at the Castlewood Invite on Saturday.
Deuel finished with 10 points to edge Arlington by a point for the top spot in the girls standings. De Smet was third at 32, followed by Oldham-Ramona-Rutland at 45.
Jaycee Hourigan of Deuel had a winning time of 19:45.52 to lead a trio of Deuel runners in the top five. Shyla Tvedt was fourth at 21:19.84, while Isabella Imm was fifth at 21:37.81.
Arlington teammates Kaelyn Ulschmid and Madalyn Madsen were second and third, respectively, with times of 20:12.56 and 21:15.81.
Adalyn Gross was the top finisher for De Smet with a time of 22:42.53 to finish ninth. Gemma Luethmers and Bella Wilkinson were No. 13 and 14, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs with times of 23:59.99 and 24:08.90.
Deuel also won the boys title with 13 points. Estelline/Hendricks was second at 21, followed by Elkton-Lake Benton at 30, Arlington at 31, De Smet at 51 and Castlewood at 56.
Sutton Benck covered the 5,000-meter distance in 16:52.46 to win the boys race, while Nate Timm of Elkton-Lake Benton was second at 16:56.07.
Jordan Botkin was the first of five runners for De Smet. He finished with a time of 19:11.79 to finish 17th and was followed across the line by teammate Chase Temme at 19:12.71.
Noah Luethmers was 25th for the Bulldogs at 20:55.08, while Owen Anderson was 27th at 21:25.65 and Kaleb Johnson was 32nd at 23:19.66.
