Tigers sixth at ESD tourney

WATERTOWN – On the second day of play, the Huron Tigers girls tennis team maintained a sixth place spot in the Eastern South Dakota Conference tournament Tuesday at Highland Park in Watertown.

Mitchell won the team points title with 321 points, far outpacing Yankton, who came in second with 266 points.

Watertown finished third at 246, Aberdeen Central placed fourth with 224 points, and Harrisburg tallied 117 points in fifth.

Huron finished with 62 team points.

The top finisher for Huron was Paw Kler Moo in No. 4 singles.
Moo fell to Chloe Ladner of Aberdeen Central in semifinal action 10-8. She then faced Harrisburgs Noa Lovro for third place and won 8-2.

AnneClaire Rubish, Hurons No. 1 singles player, lost to Nora Krajewski of Yankton in semifinals by the score of 10-1. In the third-place game, Rubish fell to Julia Knie of Aberdeen Central 8-0.

Moo and Say Glay combined to win their opening round match against Brandon Valley 10-8 to move into the semifinals. The pair fell in semifinals to Mitchell 10-7 and dropped the third place match to Yankton 8-3.

Earlier in the day, Madeline Kleinsasser fell in flight five singles to Karalyn Koerner of Yankton in consolation semifinals. Ann Hoek fell in No. 3 singles 8-5 to Jessi Muth of Harrisburg.

Say Glay fell 8-2 in consolation semifinals to Madelyn Von Wald of Harrisburg. Idella Meyer fell in No. 6 singles to Makenna Beck of Brandon Valley, 8-3.

In doubles play, Hurons No. 1 team of Ann Hoek and AnneClaire Rubish fell to Watertown in the first round and then to Brandon Valley in the consolation semifinals.

The No. 3 doubles team of Kleinsasser and Meyer fell to Harrisburg 10-6 before Yankton defeated them in the consolation semifinals, 8-5.

The Tigers begin state tournament play next Monday in Rapid City.
