To the Editor:
National 4-H Week is October 7-12! I am a seven-year member of the Heartland 4-Hers. 4-H provides so many valuable learning experiences for youth in our community and we area always looking for adult volunteers to help with projects.
There are so many project areas to explore through 4-H that I am confident you can find what fits your interests and learn more while having fun and making new friends. My two favorite areas are photography and Home Environment.
I really like taking pictures.
Pictures give us a visual reminder of the great memories we are making as we go through life. I have taken pictures on vacations, at school activities, nature, animals, close ups, and so many more. It is fun to look for different ways to take pictures and then to look through all your pictures sharing your memories with others.
My favorite picture I took and exhibited this year was one of the World Trade Center and one of my sisters senior pictures in a wheat field. I also enjoy making new things for our house, whether it be a wall hanging, a centerpiece or refinishing something in our home to give it a fresh look. This year I used scrap lumber to make a pumpkin decoration.
There are so many opportunities in 4-H. Not only is there fun with friends but you learn so many life skills. Taking my own pictures and making my own home dcor saves me money and I can even sell some of my projects to earn some spending money.
Come join the 4-H fun while learning life skills. Beadle County Extension office can provide addition information and help you find the perfect club for you!
