Letter – Wachter 10-12-24

To the Editor:

My name is Charleston Wachter, I am 12-years-old, this is my 5th year in 4-H and this is National 4-H week. I am going to tell you about a skill I acquired in 4-H. If you like cooking or baking then try Special Foods.

Special Foods is a thing where you can compete with judges watching how you make the food, how it tastes, and how you present it. They look at things like how you put the meal together, how you measure it, and the nutritional knowledge you know about what goes into making the recipe you pick. Ive made dairy based smoothies, pork kebabs, and a beef and rice skillet to name a few.

It is hard because of all the details, and all the rules like food cleanliness and food prep like you had your own restaurant. It is good stuff to know.

This is one of the many skills you can acquire in 4-H. There is always something for you to learn. It can be as varied as shooting sports, showing animals, rocketry, art, or basically anything in between. So join 4-H and most importantly, have fun!
